| In cooking rice, there are three components involved, namely, rice, water and heat. Rice is consisted mainly of starch. Different varieties of rice contain different type of starch. Some has soft texture, others give firmer texture when cooked. Choose carefully the texture you prefer and use the appropriate rice. Now, to cook rice you will need water. It will not cooked if there's no water, no matter how hot or how long you cook it. Make sure you use the right amount of water. If you put too little water, the upper portion of rice will not be cooked properly since not enough water reached the top. Using too much water, on the other hand, will tend to make rice mashy and grain will not hold its form. Lastly, to cook rice you need the heat component. |

| Soft Short Grain Rice |

It has a nutty scent when cooked with very firm texture, ideal for fried rice. » Cooking parboild rice require lot of water, medium time and medium heat. Some people would only soak parboiled rice in hot water for cooking since it is already cooked. |
| Brown Rice | » Brown rice is husked but not milled so it is high in nutrition and fiber. » Cooking brown rice require lot of water due to rough bran layer. Always soak rice in water for few hours before cooking. |
